Young Professionals Innovation Competition
 

ACC is pleased to announce the 2016 ACC Young Professionals Innovation Competition. Sponsored by the ACC Members Foundation, the purpose of this competition is to encourage innovative thinking among young professionals who are involved in the development and operations of airports.  

SCOPE

Think about the many factors of change that are affecting the modern aviation industry. Creative thinking from new leaders will be vital as the industry continues to adapt to these factors. ACC is seeking new, innovative ideas from young professionals in aviation. These innovations can be technical or operational in nature and can fall within any discipline of airport development, but should be an original concept or a unique improvement to an existing model or practice that furthers development and address growing challenges at airports.  

PARTICIPANTS
  • All participants must be 35 years old or younger.
  • Teams can be made up of up to four members. At least half of the team must be from ACC member firms.
  • Team members from different organizations – including airport staff – are encouraged.  
FORMAT
  • Acceptable submission formats* include PDF white papers, slideshow presentation, or video (limit 12 mins)
  • All projects and documentation must be submitted digitally.
    *additional formats acceptable upon request
SCORING CRITERIA

Submissions will be judged by a panel of six industry experts that will be made public following the competition. Scoring by this panel will be based upon the following criteria:

35% Originality
Ideas presented are unique, creative concepts of the team members.
25% Potential
Significance or value of the improvements that this innovation could bring to the airport development industry. 
25% Feasibility
Ideas presented are actionable within the current aviation system and address any concerns of cost or stakeholder buy-in. 
15% Presentation Quality
Team worked within one of the acceptable formats to engage their audience, clearly and directly present their ideas and make a strong case for the impact their innovations could have.
 

DEADLINES
  • A project abstract including the project title, names and contact information for all group members is due Friday, July 8, 2016. Limit: 400 words. Please also include teammate titles and expertise.
  • All final submissions are due by Monday, September 26, 2016.

Announcement of winners: Thursday, December 1, 2016
Presentations: Winning teams will be recognized during the 2017 ACC/AAAE Airport Planning, Design and Construction Symposium (February, 2017 in New Orleans, LA)

1st Place Winners
  • $500 awarded to each team member
  • Opportunity to present and/or display your presentation at 2017 Symposium
  • Feature content in ACC Weekly newsfeed

2nd Place Winners
  • $225 for each team member.
  • Opportunity to display your presentation at 2017 Symposium
  • Opportunity to present your presentation at 2017 Symposium if time permits

  • Honorable mention recognition at the 2017 Symposium
