executive director of environment and planning at Los Angeles World
Airport (LAWA), is among the airport leaders implementing practices to
promote sustainability. He is a champion of the new Sustainability
Performance Improvement Management System (SPIMS). In August 2007,
spurred by the mayor’s executive directive no. 10 (sustainability
practices in the City of Los Angeles) and the City Council’s vote
to develop an aggressive program to make Los Angeles Airport the
“greenest airport in the world”, the Los Angeles Board of
Airport Commissioners adopted its “sustainability Vision and
principles” which lays out a commitment to efficient and
